Overview

We’re thrilled to introduce you to the Frostbite Orckings kit, featuring a Ludwig classic maple set, a Ludwig Black Beauty Snare and Meinl Byzance cymbals.

This virtual drum kit was recorded by legendary producer Charlie Bauerfeind at Streetlife Studios in Fürth, Germany, utilizing both digital and analog methods—through a fully analog Paul Wolff FIX Console and an MTR 90 Otari 2" tape machine.

Bastian Emig, Drummer of Van Canto, and studio and live musician for countless productions from Punkrock to Speed Metal, set up the drum kit and played all samples in different velocities and playing styles. It is featured in the debut album "The Orcish Eclipse" of the virtual melodic death metal band "Frostbite Ockings".

Each microphone was carefully pre-routed to stems, premixed, and preprocessed by Charlie, ensuring that every hit, crash, and thump you trigger is production-ready and full of character, sent with love right into your studio, waiting to be shaped into your next masterpiece.

Installation

Frostbite Orckings is a Kontakt instrument, compatible with Kontakt 7.0 and higher. Please refer to the official system requirements for detailed specifications. The Kontakt 7 Player is a free product from Native Instruments.

Getting started with this kit is straightforward:

Go get and install Kontakt 7 from Native Instruments
Purchase a valid license number from the KLANGMACHT shop at klangmacht.rocks/Buy.
Open Native Access (comes with Kontakt), click "Add Serial," and enter your license number.
Choose your desired install location to download and install the product.
Once installed, the kit will be available within Kontakt or Kontakt Player, ready to be unleashed in your next track.

Quick Start Guide

We want you to dive into the sound as quickly as possible:

Open the Instrument: Load Frostbite Orckings in Kontakt.
Send MIDI Data: Play your MIDI controller or sequence MIDI notes to trigger the instrument.
Demo Mode: Press the small Play Button in the lower right corner to hear the demo MIDI we've provided. This will give you a quick taste of the kit's versatility.
Explore the Keyboard: Open the Kontakt keyboard to view all available samples and notes. This will give you an immediate sense of the sonic possibilities.

Functions Overview

The instrument is packed with features to tailor the sound to your exact needs. Here’s a breakdown:

BIG KNOB The heart of this kit is the Big Knob. Turn it from left to right to morph your sound from "Close" (tight and focused) to "Big" (wide and expansive). This single control adjusts all stems in a pre-configured manner, giving you access to a vast array of sounds with minimal effort. Play around with it and discover your unique sound.
DEMO PLAYER The Demo Player allows you to listen to a specially crafted MIDI file that showcases the instrument’s versatility. Just click play, adjust the Big Knob, and hear the magic unfold. Note that this feature is visible only when the "KM Map" (see [5]) is activated.
ANALOG / DIGITAL SWITCH We've recorded every sample in both digital and analog formats—once through a pristine digital signal chain and once through a fully analog setup, including a Paul Wolff FIX Console and an MTR 90 Otari 2" tape machine. This switch lets you choose between the warmth of analog and the clarity of digital, depending on your taste and the needs of your track.
MAIN SOUND / ALTERNATIVE SOUND For added flexibility, we recorded an alternative snare. This switch allows you to toggle between the main and alternative sounds.
MIDI MAP Here, you can select the MIDI Map that best suits your workflow:
- KM Map: The default Klangmacht Map, designed for consistent mapping across all Klangmacht Drum Plugins.
- GM Map: A General MIDI Map for standardized mapping.
- User Map: Your custom map, configured via the Klangmacht Midi Mapper online tool. You can import this map and use it across all Klangmacht instruments.
EASY MODE vs EXPERT MODE Toggle between "Easy Mode" and "Expert Mode" based on your needs:
- Easy Mode: Simplifies the interface, giving you access to the Big Knob and basic options.
- Expert Mode: Provides detailed control over stems and routings, perfect for those who want to dive deep into the mix.
In Expert Mode, the layout organizes direct signals (Kick, Snare, Toms, Cymbals) on the left, and room signals (Room Near, Room Far, Overheads, Bleed, Snare Reverb) on the right. Each has specific roles:
- Room Near and Room Far: Control the room signals sent by activated "Near" and "Far" switches.
- Overheads: Contains overhead sounds for all shells, excluding cymbals.
- Bleed: Captures microphone bleed, adding realism to your mix.
- Snare Reverb: A pre-selected artificial reverb for snare samples, blendable with room, overhead, and bleed sounds.
STEM CONTROL Each pre-mixed stem can be controlled individually.
- Use the small knob to adjust stem levels, and the small switch on the left of each knob to turn the stem on or off.
- The "Near" and "Far" switches control routing through the "Room Near" and "Room Far" stems.
- The "Dim" switch at the cymbal section dims all cymbals except Ride and Hi-Hat.
- You can adjust the stem levels by turning the small knobs to suit your taste. The plugin remembers the change compared to the value that would actually apply to the small knob, depending on the position of the big knob. So, if you operate the big knob after making a change, it will change the small knobs in the same proportion as the change you have just made!
- You can use the “Reset Preset” button to reset the small knobs to the preset value (depending on the position of the big knob). This button only appears (right to the Big Knob) after you made a change on the small knob.
ROUTING Customize your output routing to suit your mixing process. Route each stem to different outputs in Kontakt, enabling precise control in your DAW. Just remember to activate the outputs in Kontakt before selecting them here.
